Team & Reviews

“The staff at Isibindi Zulu Lodge are a small team who considers themselves more of a family than staff members”
The majority of the staff hail from the surrounding hills and valleys of where there forefathers fought in the fierce battles that have made this area so famous.

  • “An African highlight” Reviewed 9 March 2016 We have just stayed 4 nights at Isibindi Zulu Lodge and what a delight it was. Be prepared, this is a full on African experience. The lodge managers, Nicole and Manus are excellent hosts and all of the staff are delightful. We enjoyed wonderful days in the peace of this exhilarating landscape spotting wildlife either on game drives from the lodge or from our own balcony. During our stay we were lucky to see the Zulu show organised by the lodge which was brilliant. We also booked a battlefield tour (through the lodge) with Mike Nel a fantastic historian and true enthusiast for all things Zulu who ably brought everything to life with great skill. There is no TV but to be honest we truly didn't miss it at all. If you have come to this area for the wildlife and interest In The battlefields, this is a great place to stay. Room Tip: Each room has incredible views See more room tips

  • November 2015 We stayed for 3 nights in a zulu-style beehive hut (the honeymoon suite we were told). No aircon, but kept cool with ceiling fans. Very few bugs. Great view from room. The Zulu dance evening with dinner and beer tasting is recommended, and instructive - it taught me never to touch Zulu beer again! The game drive in the grounds was good and we got really close to giraffes. Also zebras and a variety of birds. Mike Nel's guided tour of Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift was first-rate. His graphic description surpassed anything you could read in a book. Food was good, with an exceptionally good steak on our last evening. Highly recommended.

  • January 2017 We had the most wonderful two night stay. The first night after a safari it became very cold and we were made to feel very special with dinner inside and a log fire. Nicole and her husband spent lots of time talking with us and answering all our question. The staff were a delight. We spent the second day with a guide learning about the history of Rorke's Drift and Isandlwana. This was an amazing education. In the evening we had local entertainment and it was followed with Zulu food. We hope one day to come back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and have no complaints at all. The guide who was arranged to take us round the Battlefields (I think his name was Tolani, was outstanding, he brought the whole thing to life with his knowledge and enthusiasm. The staff at Isibindi Zulu Lodge were friendly and helpful. We only wish we could have stayed here longer and would definitely stay here again if we were in the area and also recommend it to friends.
